Company Profile

C.P.C.E. sprl is a company of control system consultants specialising in the design, implementation and optimisation of advanced process control applications.

Although C.P.C.E. is a recently created company, its engineers have extensive experience in Europe and South Africa including several major process control projects, where they have generally occupied the position of technical team leader.

These include:

·         the start-up and optimisation of the Sasol synthetic oil from coal refinery (Sasol Two and Three, South Africa)

·         the start-up and optimisation of the Mossgas synthetic oil from gas refinery (South Africa)

·         the rectification of design deficiencies of control systems for the Sasol and Mossgas projects (South Africa)

·         the Sasol One instrument revamp project (South Africa)

·         the design and commissioning of control systems for power station and process boilers (South Africa)

·         assisting Hartmann & Braun Germany in the upgrade of control algorithms for the Contronic P Distributed Control System and active participation in the development of their new Contronic S automation station (Germany)

·         supervision of the DCS design and commissioning for the Rhone Poulenc sulphuric acid regeneration unit in northern Europe (Belgium)

·         the design, commissioning and optimisation of advanced anti-surge, process controls and emergency shutdown systems for more than 50 compressors. (Europe and South Africa)

C.P.C.E. provides a full range of services which include the provision of engineering services and packages, the development of fully integrated control systems, as well as specific consulting services, including PC based process simulators developed according to the client’s specifications.

C.P.C.E. focuses more specifically on rotating compressor controls, for which it proposes anti-surge controllers, surge detectors, compressor simulators and compressor emergency shutdown systems, all developed in house.

C.P.C.E. is committed to providing systems that are cost effective, reliable and of the highest quality, and which best support the objectives of its clients.

Owing to the long standing working relationships with a team of free lance control systems engineers in which human resources it can draw for larger projects, C.P.C.E. is able to provide the most dynamic teams able to address any process control requirement that a client might have.

Altogether, the C.P.C.E. engineers have studied, implemented, optimised and commissioned the anti-surge controls of more than 50 compressors.

Since 1991, more than 30 compressors have been equipped with the C.P.C.E. standard anti-surge controller. This controller consists in a powerful control algorithm developed by C.P.C.E. and implemented in a H&B Protronic PS stand alone controller. The anti-surge algorithm has now been upgraded to run on the newer generation H&B Protronic 500 stand alone controller.

In most of the applications, the C.P.C.E. engineers have also performed the engineering and commissioning of the interlock and emergency shutdown systems related to those compressors. PLC’s have commonly be used for the implementation of the interlock/emergency shutdown systems.
